The University of Messina may confer the title of “Doctor of Research” or “Ph.D.” on individuals who have already graduated and who have acquired exceptional cultural, scientific, humanitarian, or social merits recognised by the international community in the subjects covered by the course for which it is awarded, subject to any limits established by the Ministry.
1. The course must be active during the academic year in which the proposal is approved.
2. The award may be proposed by the Rector or by the Board of Professors of the relevant Doctorate, subject to a resolution passed by a two-thirds majority of its members.
3. Proposals for the award must indicate the exact title of the Doctorate and include the candidate's curriculum vitae and a report with the scientific reasons.
